Call for Papers

Turkology is a discipline with a long-standing tradition that evaluates the shared heritage of the Turkic world on a scientific basis through research on the Turkish language, literature, history, culture, and art. This field is not merely a study of language or literature; it is a holistic area of scholarship that examines the cultural continuity, historical memory, and civilizational legacy of the Turkish nation.

Systematic Turkology studies, which began in European universities from the late 19th century, gradually developed an institutional identity across different regions of the Turkic world, encompassing a wide range of approaches—from linguistic analyses to historical research, and from critical editions of texts to cultural studies. Since the second half of the 20th century, Turkology has moved beyond classical philological methods and has evolved into an interdisciplinary field of scholarship.

Today, Turkology studies are no longer limited to historical and philological investigations; they are enriched by contemporary methods such as cultural studies, digital humanities, sociolinguistics, literary theories, gender perspectives, and cultural memory research. This demonstrates that Turkology is not merely a field of research focused on the past, but also a living discipline directly related to the cultural, linguistic, and social dynamics of today’s world.

Within this broad framework, research conducted at the master’s and doctoral levels shapes the future of Turkology and ensures the continuity of scientific production. The original contributions of young researchers pave the way for the field’s development through innovative approaches and enable the reinterpretation of the common identity of the Turkic world from an academic perspective.

Based on this idea, the International Symposium for Graduate Students in Turkology, organized by the Selçuk University Institute of Turkish Studies, aims to bring together young scholars working in the field of Turkology to encourage academic knowledge exchange, support methodological diversity, and open new areas of discussion regarding the future of Turkology.

The primary objective of the symposium is to provide a forum for graduate students working in the field of Turkology to meet in an academic setting, enhance scientific interaction, and discuss current research trends in Turkology. Within this scope, the sub-objectives of the symposium are as follows:

  • Making new research in the field of Turkology visible.
  • Supporting scientific presentation, discussion, and writing skills at the postgraduate level.
  • Bringing together researchers from different regions of the Turkic world.
  • Strengthening interdisciplinary interaction and approaches.
  • Introducing contemporary methods and theories in Turkology.
  • Linking Turkology studies to current themes such as digitization, cultural heritage, and identity construction
